1st TRANS GLOBAL RADIO TRANSMISSION

At 6.35pm on the 18th October 1924, Kiwi amateur radio operator Frank Bell sent a groundbreaking Morse code transmission across the world: “Greetings from New Zealand, signed Bell Z4AA.” It was received by London-based amateur operator Cecil Goyder who replied with:  “Received you. Greetings from us. Can’t realise you are in New Zealand.  Daylight now.  Are you troubled by static? or fading?” The communication made world headlines and created an interest in the developing radio technology. read more
