THE JOYITA MYSTERY

On the 14th of March 1975, the Western Samoa Post Office released a set of five stamps dealing with the Joyita mystery.

The MV Joyita was a 69-foot (21m) wooden ship built in the USA in 1931 as a luxury yacht. On the 10th of November 1955, now a cargo ship, the Joyita was discovered drifting some 600 nautical miles off course with nobody onboard. The ship had been expected in the small New Zealand dependency of Tokelau, but it had never arrived.
